The Community Speed Watch Scheme

When people filled in the Community Plan questionnaires and came to public meetings in the Village Hall, a major concern was speeding traffic.  Buckland Newton now has the chance to do something about this. 28 people were killed and 334 seriously injured on Dorset's roads during 2013. Help us to change those figures!  It should be emphasised that the primary objective of the CSW is to educate drivers to drive safely, within the 30 mph speed limit in our villages, not to "catch" people speeding. And it is working – drivers are becoming more "speed-aware". Two sets of speed checking equipment are being purchased, so in future there will be two separate groups each with their own equipment, the first operating in Piddlehinton and Piddletrenthide, the second covering Alton Pancras, Buckland Newton and Duntish. If you are willing to join the Alton Pancras, Buckland Newton and Duntish group – please contact Lesley Docksey (Tel: 345109) for Buckland Newton, Maree Pollard (Tel: 345349) for Duntish or Heather Bland (Tel: 07799 654988) for Alton Pancras. Alternatively, call 101 and ask for the Dorchester East Safer Neighbourhood Team. For more information visit the Community Speed Watch page on the Dorset Police website: www.dorset.police.uk
